These mandrels have been one of the best purchases I’ve ever made, despite being plastic they are the handiest tool I own as the shapes are standard cabochon sizes!!

i have lost so much wire trying to make open spirals, when they turn out like #*+@#, they accidentally fly across the room, hit the wall and are never seen again (behind the tool box on wheels) after that happen. now i just use the smaller cone to make open spirals with a uniform shape every time, i just flush cut and smash the “tree” then hammer and it’s perfect. this is my secret for matching spiral earrings. the square shapes, end up diamonds, very rarely seen on __sy.
